Crossroads is a nonprofit education and treatment program for children with Autism. Autism, a neurological disorder affecting the function of the brain, has symptoms that typically appear within the first three years of life. It is presently the third most prevalent syndrome in the United States. Statistics report that at least twenty-two babies are born daily with this syndrome. With appropriate education and treatment there is much hope for these children. Crossroads utilizes Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) as the treatment philosophy and approach to autism intervention. Noted as the only method for which empirical research has validated success, a major study at UCLA resulted with nearly 50% of the children with autism “recovering” after this intensive behavior therapy treatment. The intensive behavior therapy is provided by Crossroads at both the school and at home. While funding from the state, counties and school districts is available and provided, costs are numerous for a program like Crossroads. Many services are provided by Crossroads to the families and children. These services include: parent training, sibling counseling, behavior management programs, support groups, etc.

The planners and volunteers for the Albany Riverfront Music Festival encourage the public to attend the event. All proceeds will go directly to the Crossroads Center for Children playground fund.
